So I've decided to create my own nail polish in a mint colour which I could not find in stores here. There is this frankenpolish phenomenon in beauty blogger circles, there is a quite helpful website about this thing, hows and whats, tips etc. I had no special tools for this DIY project, but I definitely wanted to try this polish-mixing.

Lényeg a lényeg: a spórolás.

First, I started searching for cheap polishes (essence brand) in mint colour but the two I have found were only close to the shade I imagined, and I was not willing to spend money on any of them, even though they are really cheap, and totally work for me (most of the time these essence polishes last almost for five days on my nails). So I made my own mint polish, but the next time I'll do this frankenpolish thing will be in the summer at home, where I can sit on the terrace and won't suffocate from the smells. Well, my main inspiration came from the idea that I must save money, since I already have tons of polishes that I rarely or never use. This was the case with my white polish, I used it once I think, and another time, when my friend made me a french manicure and she used it as a tip painter. So this became the base of my new polish.

Unfortunatelly, this polish is no longer available, it is no 68 perfectly true. (forrás/source)
And this was the green one (which is also unavailable now) that I used to create the mint shade:

Ez az 10 in the jungle árnyalat, szintén nem kapható már. It is no 10 in the jungle.

I guess, the process is quite easy for anyone. A clean nail polish bottle, nail polish remover (with acetone), and some cocktail shaker skills are needed. You can google the rest, there are probably lots of tutorials around the world wide web. I did not try the polish out yet, but there will be a post update soon about how it looks like on my nails. DIY project finished, scroll down for pics about the mint polish (its shade kind of resembles that of the typical green apple ice cream).

árnyékban / in the shade

természetes fényben / in natural light

vakuval / with flash

So I've decided to change the colour scheme of the blog to make it more spring-like.
And I've found a nice song for this occasion as well:

Nothing interesting happened today; I've only had a simple stomach-ache so unfortunately I had to skip the Renaissance Poetry & Drama class. I finished my essay in Sunday morning which turned out to be satisfactory, though I have to run through it a couple of times again to decide whether it is really finished or not.
There won't be a midterm test on Thursday because the teacher decided not to make us write the test, which means that I'll be able to hang out with my buddies in the neighbourhood Wednesday evening.
I'll go home on Friday since spring break is due next week, which means spring-cleaning and massive studying. Well, time to finish the crappy writing: I should start reading the drama for Wednesday (I don't know how far I'll get tonight but I have to start reading it anyway), then take a decent shower and go to bed.

Writing mode: Zombie

Tomorrow I have to start writing an essay, or at least an outline of an essay about how Mr G. B. Shaw sort of denied the expectations of the audience in his play, Pygmalion. And I'm writing in English in order to get into the mood... I have to write a summary of a play for my Modern and Contemporary British and Irish Drama class every week, and I also have to read tons of critical articles (secondary sources, as they say), yet for me getting into the swing of writing in English takes much more time than writing a summary about 300 words (which is actually finished in 30 minutes). It's nice to have an unpopular blog with only few followers/readers, for I enjoy full independence here.
So in the morning I have discussed the theme with my professor. At first I thought that there's no way I could write 5 pages about this topic, for I have only found 2 sources which matched the topic, and that's not enough. But then, with the help of my professor, so many ideas came to my mind, that now I have to pick out certain aspects to limit the essay to 5 pages.
After having lunch I had to read some excerpts from a captivity narrative, then I fell asleep, for I did not sleep well last night. And since 5 pm I'm like a zombie, though I don't feel sleepy at all (probably because of my afternoon nap) and I got used to go to bed around this time in the evening (11.30 pm). Anyway, this might be a perfect opportunity to finish the book I'm reading, for ther are only few pages left. And then I can get into the habit of thesis writing as well. So much to do in so little time...

And people with Crohn's disease know this very well. I know it, too, though I always seem to forget this fact. I have fallen into sin so many times these last few days and the consequences started to show yesterday. Just the usual stuff, nothing new.
Now I should start studying for my Language in Socio-Cultural Context exam.

Jó itthon lenni / No Place Like Home

Reclining on the couch, for instance, that definitely feels like home. And watching cooking shows on TV cuz that's fun anyway. Yesterday I did some glass painting: a lamb and a Christmas tree. That felt like childish - in the good sense.

And I should do soooo many other things than just carelessly blogging. :D
I am past the historical linguistics exam of four pages which is going to be a fail, though I tried my best. I was bored and absolutely uninterested in the whole stuff. Writing an exam for 90 minutes? What the hell? I could never concentrate for that much time. It's just not me; way beyond my capabilities.
The rest of the day is packing, I guess, since I'll leave Pécs tomorrow at 7.14 am, and then I continue from Budapest by car with my cousin. It's going to be hard to wake up at 5.00 am...
I have to submit three revised home assignments (preliminary introduction, argument, and summary) till Friday 12.00 am. I hope it won't take a whole day to revise them. There is also a historical linguistics assignment which has to be done till December 23; analysis of some verses from the King James Bible (sounds fun, doesn't it?), but it can wait because I'll have 2 exams next week. And after these comes Christmas...

I really like fall or autumn: the feeling it always gives me. A comforting but frightening feeling, it is. Like peaceful solitude. Like this song:

És egyelőre ennyit az érzelgősködésről :)

So much for sentimentality (for now).

Javulok

Most a hasam köcsögösködik, gondolom, az antibiotikumtól.

Feeling better now. Though I still hate cold.
There's a new dashboard on Blogger: it's fine, more complex than before but still easy to use.
Tomorrow grape harvest - not so happy about this one.
My dress for the wedding is almost finished, some lengthening needs to be made.

My life - my business vol. 2

I hate when people tell me 7/24 what I should or shouldn't do. It is so not their fucking business. What the hell they think? The only thing I really should do is to ignore them but it's so hard when you get it all the time.
I'm spending too much time (too much for whom anyway?) in front of the computer - that's a problem. I eat something different from the already cooked meal for lunch - that's also a problem. I don't like tomatoes - guess what? That's a problem too! I don't spend enough time outside (cuz I hate this hot weather and I don't want to melt in the sun) - that is also a problem.
I should assume that I'm a problem wholly and completely... but that is something I'm not. Or a pain in the neck either.
But you know what? Fuck off and try some self-criticism! It's healthy. You might even sleep better at nights.

8/19/2011

Azon gondolkodtam,

I was thinking about blogging also in English (cuz it's so cool) to be(come) more international but my Enlish basically sucks (the English major tells you). It would be good, though cuz then I can write about whatever I want when the posts are about something that I don't want certain people to understand. Hm... so evil. But then I'll be always criticized by Murcy... Ah, what the heck! I'll try it anyway.

30 Day Song Challenge

day 01 - your favorite song / a kedvenc dalom

day 02 - your least favorite song / legkevésbé kedvenc??? na, szóval a dal, amit nem nagyon szeretek

day 03 - a song that makes you happy / ami boldoggá tesz
Mert erre jókat tudok tombolni.

day 04 - a song that makes you sad / amitől szomorú leszek

day 05 - a song that reminds you of someone / ami emlékeztet valakire

day 06 - a song that reminds you of somewhere / ami egy helyre emlékeztet

day 07 - a song that reminds you of a certain event / ami egy bizonyos eseményre emlékeztet

day 08 - a song that you know all the words to / aminek tudom a szövegét

day 09 - a song that you can dance to /amire tudok táncolni

day 10 - a song that makes you fall asleep / amitől elalszok

day 11 - a song from your favorite band / dal a kedvenc bandámtól

day 12 - a song from a band you hate / bandától, amit utálok

day 13 - a song that is a guilty pleasure / a bűnös élvezet, vagymi

day 14 - a song that no one would expect you to love / senki se gondolná, hogy szeretem

day 15 - a song that describes you / ami engem jellemez

day 16 - a song that you used to love but now hate / amit szerettem, de már nem szeretem

day 17 - a song that you hear often on the radio / gyakran hallom a rádióban

day 18 - a song that you wish you heard on the radio / amit szeretnék a rádióban hallani

day 19 - a song from your favorite album / a kedvenc albumomról

day 20 - a song that you listen to when you’re angry / akkor hallgatom, ha mérges vagyok

day 21 - a song that you listen to when you’re happy / ha boldog vagyok

day 22 - a song that you listen to when you’re sad / ha szomorú vagyok
Tori gyógyír a szomorúságra... vagy olaj a depis tűzre.

day 23 - a song that you want to play at your wedding / szeretném, ha játszanák az esküvőmön
... mondjuk egy jazz banda.

day 24 - a song that you want to play at your funeral / ...a temetésemen

day 25 - a song that makes you laugh / ami megnevettet

day 26 - a song that you can play on an instrument / amit tudok játszani hangszeren
Majdnem jól ment gitáron. De inkább szörnyű volt.

day 27 - a song that you wish you could play / amit szeretnék hangszeren játszani
Ezt szeretném tudni dobolni.

day 28 - a song that makes you feel guilty / amitől bűnösnek érzem magam

day 29 - a song from your childhood / gyerekkoromból

day 30 - your favorite song at this time last year / a kedvenc dalom tavaly ilyenkor

Girl with the bedroom eyes

You recognize fire and ice in her cutting glance.
You can never get out of her sight.
You are smitten with that look in her eyes.
It paralyzes, chills, takes your breath away, saying: 'Come, lets get away right today!'
She squeezes you tight, shows what real heaven's like.
And the fairy tale comes true while you're fighting with the tornado she made and put you through.
Then suddenly the hurricane is over - she left you there all alone.
And you realize that you know much more about her than you'll ever get...

"I can see you standing in the pouring rain
waiting for changes to carry you away.
I can see the light fall from your eyes
as we get lost in the tears of this goodbye.
[...]
I can hear you laugh when I close my eyes,
I can picture your face and the strenght inside your smile,
I can see the words dance across your lips -
I remember forever something more than this.
You can't go farther than my heart can go...
Cuz I'll still be loving you
through the sadness and the madness here
and I'll always be with you in the distance
that has taken you from me."

(Plumb - Taken)

Üzenet /Neked is :D/

The heart may freeze or it can burn.
The pain will ease if I can learn.
There is no future, there is no past.
I live this moment as my last.
There's only us, there's only this.
Forget regret or life is yours to miss.
No other road, no other way,
no day but today.
There's only yes, only tonight.
We must let go to know what's right.
No other course, no other way,
no day but today.
I can't control my destiny.
I trust my soul, my only goal
is just to be.
There's only now, there's only here.
Give in to love or live in fear.
No other path, no other way,
no day but today...

Here we go...

„Seize the day!” – wrote Horace in his Odes. Improve the time; enjoy the present day, live each day, as it is your last day. Can we make it? Can we live for the moment? Can we shout out loud without doubt „carpe diem”? We can try at least. I would like to introduce two approaches to ‘carpe diem’ through poems written by Andrew Marvel (1621-1678) and Denise Levertov (1923-1997) and try to show how they interpret this expression, in what way they agree and differ.
At first I want to write shortly about the structure and versification of the poems because I think it is important to look at it a bit. ‘To His Coy Mistress’ by Marvell is an iambic tetrameter poem rhyming as couplets and using a hyperbole. It is divided into three stanzas within a dialectical structure. The author puts opposites together – thesis (stanza 1) and antithesis (stanza 2) – then in the last part – synthesis (stanza 3) – he traces a solution. ‘Living’ by Levertov has no rhyme scheme and the dissection of the poem has no regular system.
While Marvell’s poem is well structured, Levertov’s is a free verse. As I see, Marvell’s message is more complex and harder to express and his way of the structure shows more concentration on the point. Levertov uses free lines without any decoration, as if she might not want to say an important message – she briefly tells what the point is, not more and not less.
As the title says, Marvell wrote his poem “to his coy mistress”, a shy lady he wants to seduce. In the first stanza he honestly writes about his love to this young lady; his aim is to get her but strangely he wants the lady not to cave in, so his “vegetable love” (L.11) can grow bigger and become stronger. He uses various allusions: geographical, like “the Indian Ganges’ side” (L.5) and “by the tide / Of Humber” (L.6-7); and Biblical, like “ten years before the Flood” (L.8) and “Till the conversion of the Jews” (L.10). He also uses adjectives and numbers, which with the mentioned allusions express exaggeration, infinity and eternity of time and space. The second stanza is more pessimistic, showing time passing quite roughly with the line “Time’s winged chariot hurrying near” (L.22) and words such as “vault” (L.26), “worms” (L.27), “grave” (L.31). These show that human life is doomed to pass away; hence Marvell’s desire will disappear with the mistress’ beauty. The third stanza reflects the true ‘carpe diem’ feeling: they should make love while they may and enjoy themselves until they can. They can’t affect the duration of their lives but they can make the best of it.
Levertov’s poem has no addressing. In “Living” the poetess shows how time and nature end, even though these notions are endless. She uses simple and fine adjectives, e.g. “delicate” (L.9), not many verbs and colours representing life and hope. The shivering of the leaves might represent that the gifts of life are not stable and the “wind” (L.4), a higher power influences our circumstances. “A red salamander / so cold and so easy to catch” (L.7-8) may resemble to human life which, though is not always as sweet as we want it to be, it is easy to grab it, to take it – obviously live it. However, we have the right to let it go anytime we feel like – Levertov writes that “I hold / my hand open for him to go” (L.10-11). The ‘carpe diem’ lines are “each summer the last summer” (L.3), “each day the last day” (L.6) and “Each minute the last minute” (L.12). These obviously show little optimism – not much, however – and through the images of nature the whole poem is simply mild, as “delicate” (L.9) as the feet of the salamander.
There are not many similarities between the two poems because they seem to show diverse ways of seizing the day. Marvel wrote his poem in the seventeenth century in his thirties, while serving and helping Oliver Cromwell. He was neither young, nor old to have fear of passing away, or probably not insinuating himself into favour of a lady. On the contrary, Levertov was a twentieth century feminist who wrote her discussed poem in her forties during the Vietnam War when she started to deal with politics and war in her poetry more actively. I think, in “Living” we can also find references to a disillusioned thinking and attitude towards life.
It is eye-catching, too that the poems were written by a man and a woman. It is not surprising to draw a distinction in terms of gender, especially when we look at poems. In this case – as I see – the male poet is more specific in sharing his ideas and foreseeing possibilities to be expected. He sees both the good and bad sides, is keen on captivating the lady and gives a solution or more particularly a prediction in the end. In contrast with Marvel, Levertov does not write about the past or the future, she uses present tense and shows what is happening. For me this represents release and slipping away of what has not to be given in.
Levertov’s poem motivates us on further thinking, while Marvell’s lines draw a whole process of time passing. In my opinion, for the poetess this passing is so easy and she doesn’t seem to worry about it. Marvell has much more at stake: his „lust” (L.30), pleasure and possibly a pretty and smart woman he wants to persuade to make love with him. His poem shows excitement, enthusiasm and affection, whereas Levertov’s poem is calm and peaceful.
Reading and analysing the poems pointed out to me that they have not much in common, except the basic idea of ‘carpe diem’, although the authors seem to perceive it differently and their aspects contrast two dissimilar views. The most important contextual differences are on the score of culture, history, age, gender and comprehension. Furthermore another significance is that the poems are dialectical structure versus free verse. I think, Marvell is somewhat sexist and too precise but not bulk rate because it is adorable how he plays with words and his way of writing makes the poem a beautiful confession. However, hearing something what Marvell was trying to express would almost certainly fray my nerves. Levertov is gentler through her thoughts; she picks her words judiciously, which almost perfectly describe her conception and feelings. In addition, as a hedonic term, ‘carpe diem’ is better described by Marvell because he really wants to make the best of the present moment, though Levertov’s poem seems to me much more impressive.

Oh, yeah!!!

Introduction:

(A great topic sentence!!!)

Explaining the expression „carpe diem” (from Horace’s Odes „seize the day”) in general; comparing Marvell’s To his Coy Mistress and Levertov’s Living – these do have similarities in terms of carpe diem but they are using different approaches to this theme.

Body of comparison:

Structure; linguistic elements; the listener/reader of the poem; historical-social background; differences in terms of gender; love from Marvell’s point of view; interpretation of “carpe diem”; comprehension of time passing.

Conclusion:

General summary of the most important similarities and differences; personal statements and opinion; what is important about the two poems being compared.

Szurkoljatok!!! XD

A nap hangulata ma - Katie Melua - The Closest Thing to Crazy

How can I think I'm standing strong,
Yet feel the air beneath my feet?
How can happiness feel so wrong?
How can misery feel so sweet?
How can you let me watch you sleep,
Then break my dreams the way you do?
How can I have got in so deep?
Why did I fall in love with you?

This is the closest thing to crazy I have ever been
Feeling twenty-two, acting seventeen,
This is the nearest thing to crazy I have ever known,
I was never crazy on my own...
And now I know that there's a link between the two,
Being close to craziness and being close to you.

How can you make me fall apart
Then break my fall with loving lies?
It's so easy to break a heart;
It's so easy to close your eyes.
How can you treat me like a child
Yet like a child I yearn for you?
How can anyone feel so wild?
How can anyone feel so blue?

Gaze

„Cover me!” – screams my perfect roommate. He’s playing CS. Rough background effects for my state. I wanna die…

I can’t handle with these blue eyes. Nothing is the way it should be. I thought this’ll be much easier but things fall apart and they wanna tear me into pieces but I’m too strong somehow. I’m just agonizing and still don’t know what to do.

And when those blue eyes look at me… It’s like I wanna watch them eternally, wanna hide in them from the world and this madness. No chance whatever, though. I’m an idiot, still wanna die! Hope this’ll end soon and I won’t be smitten with those eyes. Those fascinating, wonderful, lovely blue eyes…
